Marasa Africa reopened Silverback Lodge on March 3, coinciding with World Wildlife Day, following a full rebuild of the property near Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
The 12 guest-room lodge, which had a soft opening in 2025, has been entirely rebuilt with a reduced environmental footprint and updated design, focusing on responsible tourism in a key gorilla habitat.
The forest is home to around half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Conservation is supported by controlled trekking permits, strict visitor limits and community-based protection programmes. Silverback operates within this framework.
“Conservation has to be lived, not just spoken about,” says Tanya Madhvani, Founder of Marasa Africa. “Silverback represents a generational commitment to East Africa. We rebuilt it with humility, while respecting the forest, working with local artisans and ensuring that what we create here protects what has existed for centuries.”
The lodge is located near the Buhoma trailhead, providing access to gorilla trekking, which is limited to small groups led by experienced rangers.
