South African National Parks (SANParks) has reopened several trails in Table Mountain National Park following the recent fire but the Silvermine and Upper Tokai areas remain closed pending further assessment.
The trails now open to the public include Trappies Kop, Elsies Peak, Lower Tokai, Peers Cave, Chapman’s Peak and East Fort.
Adverse weather conditions delayed an aerial assessment of the fire damage. SANParks has since begun ground assessments with particular attention to structural hazards on trails.
No reopening date has been announced for the closed areas.
