Water secured for Simonga Village in Zambia

The River Club in Livingstone, Zambia, in partnership with the CEO Group, has helped deliver water to inhabitants of the nearby Simonga Village.

The Simonga Health Post has been connected to a water source that delivers 50 000 litres of clean water daily to the 4 000 inhabitants of the village.

“Over the years, we have raised US$30 000 for the recently completed building of the Health Post and also donated medical equipment from Belron in South Africa to assist the clinic with better service,” said The River Club’s owner, Peter Jones. “We will continue to work with our partners and past guests to implement various sustainable projects as part of our ongoing social development in the area,” he added.

Gordon Sondland of the Sondland-Durant Foundation, who travelled with the CEO Group to see the Simonga Village empowerment projects in action, has also agreed to provide breakfast daily for the foreseeable future to the 403 pupils at the Simonga Basic School. The River Club will use the funds sent each month to buy the food, which will be prepared by the PTA (Parent/Teachers Association) for the young learners.

The River Club is also set to deliver 100 ‘study lamps’ to the two senior classes at Simonga Basic School to ensure that the children are able to complete their homework after sunset. The lamps were donated by previous lodge guests, Geoff and Bonnie Morgan from Australia.
