A brand-new A&K Sanctuary lodge shaped by Maasai principles of living in harmony with nature, Kitirua Plains Lodge is located within a private conservancy beside Kenya's Amboseli National Park, beneath the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro. Opened June 1, 2026, the architecturally striking and eco-friendly lodge delivers elegant and understated luxury. The stage is set for one of Africa’s great wildlife dramas – starring the park’s famous herds of elephants, as well as big cats, giraffes, hippos and more than 400 bird species. With a dedicated and highly knowledgeable team, Kitirua Plains Lodge offers an experience like no other.
Across the 13 suites, 11 face Kilimanjaro and the first light of dawn, while the pair of two-bedroom suites gaze onto sweeping grasslands – all with floor-to-ceiling windows framing views from the bed. Designed to maximise privacy, guests can watch the Kenyan plain come to life from their private deck. Zebras and wildebeest graze, vervet monkeys scamper across the plains, elephants wander into view, and even the resident hippo appears at the watering hole.
Set on a 128-acre private concession within the 32,000-acre Kitirua Conservancy, the architecture has been shaped by the land rather than imposed upon it. Low, curving forms follow the lie of the hills; tones borrow from the soil itself. Guided by the Maasai code of living as good neighbours to the earth – and brought to life by local craftspeople – the lodge feels like it has always belonged here. Local sourcing is paramount: in the lounge, 90% of the furniture is made in Kenya using mango wood and African teak. Beyond the design, the lodge invites you to slow down: a sizeable pool overlooks the plains, while a gym and spa offer space to restore between game drives.
The mark of an exceptional safari is a team that makes the extraordinary feel effortless. At Kitirua Plains Lodge, that team has been decades in the making. Our commitment to nurturing talent from within means the Kenyan staff bring not only years of experience but also a deep connection to the landscape and homegrown hospitality guests remember long after the last game drive.
