Youth hostels can now declare COVID-19 safety protocols

The World Youth Student and Educational (WYSE) Travel Confederation has created a COVID-safe self-declaration, allowing youth accommodation providers to declare their adherence to health and safety protocols.

Youth hostels are typically budget-friendly accommodations for solo travellers keen to meet new people, but COVID-19 protocols have changed the typical hostel model to keep guests and staff safe.

To support accommodation providers, WYSE has introduced the self-declaration, allowing individual and group property owners to declare that they adhere to local and national standards of operating as well as to WYSE’s standards.

These include:

  • Cleanliness, with regular disinfection of high-touch surfaces, hand washing and deep cleaning of shared spaces.
  • Health protection of staff and guests, and installation of protective screens in reception areas.
  • Ensuring that guests are aware of the social distancing guidelines of the property.
  • Contact-free transactions.
