The date for South Africa’s first Formula E race has been confirmed as February 25 for the ninth season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
Cape Town is set to host the fifth race of the 17-race season. According to the FIA Formula E website, pre-season testing will take place in Valencia from December 3 to 16, with the official season beginning in Mexico City on January 14.
About 33 000 spectators are anticipated to attend the race, 10 000 of whom are forecast to be international spectators spending more than seven nights in South Africa, while another 10 000 will be domestic spectators from outside Cape Town.
The economic impact of the race will be substantial, with it expected to bring in an estimated R2 billion (€117m).
