Acsa to get metered taxi and Uber crime under control

Airports Company South Africa’s (Acsa) next step in its plan to reduce airport crime was to get crime relating to metered taxis and Ubers, specifically in Sandton, under control, CEO Bongani Maseko told Tourism Update.

This follows Acsa’s success in working with the South African Police Service (SAPS) as well as customs and immigration officials to reduce follow-home crime from OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA).

The steps taken to reduce follow-home crime have resulted in no further reports of follow-home incidents at ORTIA. “We’re very happy that we have been able to stabilise these issues,” Maseko says.

He says Acsa will be working closely will SAPS to reduce criminal incidents involving metered taxis and Ubers. “SAPS is well aware of these incidents and know that drivers cannot force their services on to passengers,” he says. “Our only concern is sustaining these efforts as a large number of resources will be brought in.”
