Air France back in Seychelles after 20-year absence

Joon links France to Seychelles with new direct flight.

Air France has returned to Seychelles through its subsidiary airline, Joon. The airline ended its 20-year absence from the island with an inaugural ceremony on Tuesday May 15.

The Paris-Seychelles route has been operational since May 5, with three flights per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Senior Vice President of Air France KLM in the Caribbean, Indian Ocean and Latin America, Henri Hourcade, noted the potential the route provided to link Seychelles to the rest of Europe. “Thanks to the strength of our hub in Paris-Charles de Gaulle, we are able to propose to our clients the links to and from countries that count the most for the development of tourism in Seychelles.”

The route has been strategically established to allow maximum benefit for the tourism industry in the Seychelles. The Tuesday flight will facilitate a connection to Praslin, the second-most populated island of Seychelles. The European winter flight schedule will include two early flights to accommodate those tourists connecting to Praslin. For the summer schedule this will be adjusted to one flight.

According to the Seychelles Bureau of Statistics, France ranks second highest for visitors to the Seychelles, only a few hundred people a year behind Germany.
