Airline launches Gatwick - Cape Town route

The flights will operate three times a week, departing the UK on a Sunday, Monday and Thursday.

Thomas Cook Airlines has announced a new direct service from London Gatwick to Cape Town, the only such flights available between South Africa and the UK, aside from Heathrow.

The flights will operate three times a week, departing the UK on a Sunday, Monday and Thursday, starting from December 15, 2016 until March 20, 2017, using the airline’s refurbished A330 fleet.

The route will feature Thomas Cook Airlines’ new premium class cabin, offering affordable luxury, including James Martin meals. Tickets will be priced from £699 (R10 600) and £949 (R14 391) return and will go on sale in December.

Christoph Debus, Chief Airlines and Hotels Officer for Thomas Cook, said: “Cape Town really is a ‘Wow!’ destination for our customers. Coupled with our premium class cabin and new long-haul economy standard is proving hugely popular as customers.”

He added that, with £100 million (R2,2bn) invested in the Thomas Cook fleet and new cabin interiors, the airline was flying more customers to better destinations on better aircraft.
