Airlink returns hitchhiking bushbaby

A lesser bushbaby ended up thousands of kilometres from home after he hitched a ride from Johannesburg to Cape Town.

Following a 1 400km road trip from Johannesburg, a Cape Town man came across the hitchhiking bush baby when unloading his baggage after attending a festival in the area.

Maurice, as the bush baby was named, was taken to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA’s Wildlife Unit for a full check-up.

Lesser bushbabies do not naturally live in Cape Town and with help from the Johannesburg Wildlife Vet, and considering the festival location, the SPCA were able to track down Maurice’s colony near Fourways.

Maurice returned home with travel permits from CapeNature aboard an Airlink flight.
