BA to launch Gatwick-Cape Town flights

Cape Town is one of four long-haul destinations British Airways is launching from Gatwick this year.

British Airways’ will launch three direct flights from Gatwick to Cape Town, starting on November 24, the airline has announced.

The flights will depart Gatwick at 18h00 on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays and will arrive in Cape Town at 07h50 the following morning.

Wesgro has welcomed the development. Wesgro CEO, Tim Harris, said the new service would have a positive impact on tourism, trade and investment in Cape Town as the UK was the second-largest source FDI market. “We will be announcing our routes in the coming months and expect that this new capacity will help Cape Town International Airport to reach the 10 million passenger milestone this year.”

Lynne Embleton, British Airways MD at Gatwick said: "With its fantastic blend of nature, culture, wildlife and history, there’s nowhere quite like Cape Town. We are incredibly excited to be the only airline to offer direct services from both Gatwick and Heathrow to this hugely popular destination, while adding another long-haul route to our rapidly growing network.”
