Emirates pilots autism-friendly travel in Madagascar

Emirates launched its autism-friendly Travel Rehearsal programme with its first session at Ivato International Airport in Madagascar. The airline partnered with Zaz Heureux School to help 10 children with autism and their families experience a simulated complete air travel journey.

The programme is designed to help people with accessible travel requirements by familiarising them with airport procedures under the guidance of airport and airline staff. This includes simulated check-in, security and departure lounge procedures as well as immigration and luggage pick-up. It also includes a guided tour of an Emirates aircraft.

“We are proud to have completed our first travel rehearsal in Madagascar, aiming to reduce travel anxiety and create seamless journeys for people with neurodivergence,” says Oomar Ramtoola, Emirates Indian Ocean Islands Manager. “As the world’s first autism-certified airline, we will continue to champion accessible travel in Madagascar and across our network, empowering more people to explore the world with ease and confidence.”
