Experience beats ownership

The majority of Tourism Update readers find clients care more about the safari experience than who owns the lodge, according to a survey following a recent article exploring whether “boutique” hospitality is still defined by independent ownership as major hotel groups expand into Africa’s safari sector.

In the past week’s poll, 58% of respondents said their clients care more about the experience than ownership. Another 22% said they are not seeing strong preferences either way while 20% said their clients actively seek independent properties.

Are flight prices limiting demand?

Tourism stakeholders are arguing that airfares remain one of the biggest obstacles to increasing demand for African destinations. While connectivity has improved, some believe flight prices are now high enough to discourage travel or create the impression that destinations are unaffordable.
