Gautrain strike to continue

Passengers should expect delays and longer travelling time to OR Tambo as Gautrain workers go on strike.

UPDATE: United National Transport Union (UNTU) told Tourism Update that Gautrain workers would continue their strike on July 31.

The strike disrupted travel to OR Tambo International Airport (Ortia) on July 30, with Gautrain adding services to assist travellers with delays.

Management at Ortia advised passengers to allow for delays and longer travelling time to the airport on July 30.

“People travelling to the airport are advised to check the contingency plans put in place by the Gautrain operating company. However, given the circumstances, airport management advises air passengers to give themselves more time than usual to get to the airport,” says Leigh Gunkel-Keuler, Ortia spokesperson.

Ortia and Gautrain were unavailable for comment at the time of publication regarding contingency plans for the July 31 strike.
