German tour operator eyes SA

German tour operator, Gebeco heads to SA.

German tour operator, Gebeco, has chosen South Africa as its primary partner for its 40th anniversary celebrations.

Together with South African Tourism (SAT) Germany and South African Airways, Gebeco has invited its 100 top-selling travel agents to discover SA.  The group is travelling from September 22 to 30, and will experience the country’s lifestyle, culture, nature and wildlife.

During the first four days, the travel agents will get to know the Cape region, with highlights including Woodstock, the Zip Zap Circus, Cape Malay Cooking Safari, as well as the new Zeitz Mocaa museum.

The participants will then separate into two groups, travelling along the Garden Route and to the Kruger National Park.

Gebeco sends over 60 000 guests around the globe each year, and with a turnover of €116 million, is one of the leading tour operators for roundtrips and educational travel in the German-speaking countries.

South Africa is one of Gebeco’s top three key destination, with a growth of more than 20% in bookings for the current year. In total, with its various product lines, Gebeco offers more than 60 group tours and packages to South Africa.

Gebeco and SAT will hold consumer evenings in different regions of Germany, in co-operation with the bestselling local travel agency within these regions. One of Germany’s top travel influencers will share his South African stories, reaching 500 guests in total over all the evenings.

“We have such a strong partnership with Gebeco, with a joint understanding of motivating the travel agents first in order to enable them to sell South Africa,” says Theresa Bay-Müller, South African Tourism Head Central Europe Hub.

“South Africa is the perfect destination for our guests who are seeking huge variety with unique cultural experiences at the same time,” says Jens Hulvershorn, Director Marketing and Sales, Gebeco.

With 100 participants, Gebecos ‘preview’ is the biggest familiarisation programme out of Germany to South Africa for 2017.
