Guides offered Mandarin training

The Department of Tourism is offering South African tourist guides a free online Mandarin language training programme. The goal of the course is to help South African guides better serve the needs of the Chinese market.

The five-week online course will be offered at the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi Level 1 internationally recognised Mandarin proficiency test.

Registered tourist guides interested in participating must be South African citizens or permanent residents. Preference will be given to guides familiar with Chinese and/or foreign tourists.

Applications, closing on June 19, should include a CV and written motivation, not exceeding one page, providing reasons for inclusion in the programme along with copies of a South African ID and a valid tourist guide registration card.

All submissions must be sent via email to TGtraining@tourism.gov.za
