The fourth annual Touching Dreams Hospitality Industry Think Tank took place on July 31 at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, focusing on how hospitality and tourism businesses can adapt to emerging challenges and opportunities.
The keynote address was delivered by Johnny Goldberg, Chairman of Global Business Solutions, who unpacked artificial intelligence (AI), innovation and the transformation of hospitality. Panel discussions covered technology, industry collaboration, sustainability and youth development.
One of the key themes was the growing role of AI in how travellers discover and choose hotels. Panellists warned that properties that do not appear in AI-driven recommendations could lose bookings before potential guests even reach their websites. However, authentic content, trust and an easy booking journey remain critical to converting interest into bookings.
The Think Tank also highlighted the need to develop young talent in the sector. The Touching Dreams Think Big Academy, which provides hospitality learnerships for unemployed South Africans aged 18 to 28, has expanded from 20 learners in 2025 to 100 workplace placements in its 2026/27 programme.
All proceeds from the day, including the evening’s Oracle-themed gala dinner, will go to Touching Dreams, a non-profit company that channels hospitality industry support into community development, conservation and youth employment initiatives.
