Jambojet plans ambitious expansion

Kenyan low-cost carrier Jambojet is preparing for its most significant expansion since its launch more than a decade ago, outlining plans to triple its fleet and extend operations across East, West and Southern Africa.

According to Aerospace Global News, the airline currently operates nine De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprops on domestic and short regional routes. Jambojet aims to add two more aircraft within the next year and intends to triple its fleet over the next five years. As part of this plan, the carrier is assessing the introduction of jet aircraft to enable longer-range operations while maintaining a low-cost model.

Jambojet’s current fleet range of up to 2,5 hours limits it to short regional sectors such as Kigali, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Zanzibar. The airline intends to extend this reach and, in a second phase, operate aircraft capable of up to five-hour flights, opening access to markets in South, West and North Africa.
