November 1 saw the revealing of phase one of refurbishments and additions to the largest of the four Kapama Private Game Reserve accommodation offerings, namely Kapama River Lodge, which first opened its doors in 2007.
The refurbishment covered major structural work, including a new spacious reception area, new game vehicle access bays, a comprehensive and styled landscaped garden, as well as a curio shop, and an expansive cocktail bar and sizeable swimming pool.
Well-known interior architect, Gert Gertzen, added his signature style to the décor and design of the River Lodge expansion. His meticulous attention to detail can be seen throughout every feature, corner, sculpture and wall, even down to the already popular puzzle bench that guests gravitate toward.
The most notable highlight is the unveiling of the new cocktail bar and 12x 12 metre swimming pools. The cocktail bar, with numerous alcoves, tables and loungers, is a new space that will offer guests the ideal place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of being surrounded by nature while cooling off in the swimming pool.
Nyala and warthog graze freely, adding to the ambience. View Kapama River Lodge’s video here.
River Lodge now boasts three swimming areas for guests to enjoy – the original rim-flow pool at the riverbed bar, the elongated Spa & Wellness Centre pool that overlooks a watering hole where elephants regularly visit, as well as this new 12m x 12m addition.
Bernard Roode, MD of Kapama Private Game Reserve, said: “This refurbishment will enhance River Lodge’s positioning in the luxury safari lodge space. The new look still falls in line with the vibrant, energetic atmosphere River Lodge has always had, yet still allowing for luxury, relaxation and comfort for all Lodge guests. This follows our strategy of continuing to improve the guest experience at this very popular safari destination.”
More developments, including a new fine-dining experience and facilities for the discerning traveller, together with upgraded luxury suites, are in the pipeline for Kapama River Lodge. Details will be shared as each milestone is reached. For more information, email res@kapama.com.
