BOTSWANA’s Civil Aviation Department is planning to improve Kasane Airport to international standards. Presently, the airport’s runway has no lights, and no aircraft may land at night. Plans to improve the airport include improvement of the airport’s infrastructure to allow landing of bigger aircraft such as the Boeing 737, extending the runway to 3 000 metres, improving the terminal building, installing an electrified fence around the building and constructing management offices for the Civil Aviation Department. Construction will start as soon as government approves funding. Mputle Dikobe (mputled@nowmedia.co.za)
