Kigali’s new mayor, Marie-Chantal Rwakazina, has set her sights on improving recreational facilities for tourists in the Rwandan capital. In her inaugural address on Friday she said: “We must have many places for recreation. Recreation comes in many forms: there is sports and games, music, theatre and other activities. All these are among the things that city residents and visitors enjoy rather than just coming to do business.”
Rwakazina laid out her ‘Master Plan’ for the city, which includes a partnership and collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Culture, Rwanda Environmental Management Authority, District governments, artist and sports associations.
“I believe visitors to Kigali and residents alike need to find tourist attractions within the city without searching further.”
