LATAM Airlines will launch thrice-weekly flights between São Paulo (GRU) and Cape Town (CPT) from September 2026.
The flights will be operated on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. This marks the arrival of the first South American carrier to fly to CPT. LATAM currently flies five times a week from GRU to Johannesburg.
James Vos, Cape Town’s MMC for Economic Development and Tourism, described the new route as a “massive win” for tourism, trade and investment.
“On a previous trade mission to São Paulo, I met with the LATAM team to talk about exactly this kind of connection and now it’s becoming a reality. Moments like this remind me why we push so hard to open new routes for our region,” said Vos.
Brazil is one of South Africa’s fastest-growing source markets this year, recording 45 803 arrivals between January and September: a year-on-year growth rate of 25.2%.
