Mobile tour operators barred from parks and game reserve

Mobile tour operators have been denied entry into the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park.

Botswana mobile tour operators have been restricted access to some prime tourism areas.

Kenson Kgaga, Botswana Guides Association (BOGA) Chairman, told Tourism Update that the tour operators had been denied entry into the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park.

“About 99% of the tourists coming into Botswana want to visit these places. These licensed mobile safari tour operators are losing a lot of business from this restriction and bills are weighing heavily on them,” said Kgaga.

He said BOGA had contacted the Minister of Tourism, Tshekedi Khama, to intervene but the situation had not changed.

“We have some mobile safari tour operators who have threatened to take the government to court. We said they could go ahead because as an association we have tried.”

BOGA is a networking and advisory organisation that focuses particularly on the growth and development of tourism. It works towards maintaining high standards, professionalism and ethics within the tour and safari industry in Botswana.
