Visitors to Simon’s Town, Cape Town, might be confused when they spot a new addition to the town’s zebra crossings (crosswalks).
Following an address by Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities, Alan Winde, to the Simon’s Town Business Association, encouraging it to highlight things that make the town unique, the association set to work.
The result? A series of African penguins appearing to waddle across the town’s pedestrian crossings, with the colours of the road-markings matching their little penguin tuxedos perfectly.

Winde said: “Boulders Beach is a world-famous penguin colony, home to the endangered African penguin and this endeavour shows the town’s love and support for these birds.”
He added that it would make for great holiday photos to be shared on social media.
