Protection of the Lower Zambezi National Park and surrounding conservation areas has been bolstered by the inclusion of NGO Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ) in the African Parks incubation programme.
The African Parks incubation programme supports organisations and operators that share the goal of effectively managing protected areas through long-term agreements.
Established in 1994, CLZ works with Zambia’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife and local communities to protect the Lower Zambezi National Park and surrounding game management areas, encompassing a conservation landscape of over 18 000 square kilometres.
Ian Stevenson, CEO of CLZ, said the partnership marks a new chapter for conservation of the Lower Zambezi, which faces threats from activities such as illegal mining, poaching and deforestation.
The incubation partnership will support CLZ in matters related to governance disciplines, protected area management practices, identifying gaps through operational audits, and mentoring to build confidence and expertise.
