The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) will launch the Nyaminyami Festival in Kariba this year.
The festival forms part of ZTA’s strategy to further market Zimbabwe’s tourism destinations. It is also expected to have a positive effect on the country’s economy following the success of the Harare International Carnival.
The Harare International Carnival in 2017 is reported to have brought in more than $30 million, showing a significant increase from 2015 where the festival brought in $18 million, according to The Herald.
Chief Executive of ZTA, Karikoga Kaseke said the festivals, created for entertainment, also have socio-cultural impacts.
Recently, Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Webster Shamu, raised his concerns about Kariba, as little was being done to market it as a tourist destination. It has dropped out of the top five tourist destinations in Zimbabwe.
