Sandton has a new visitor centre for tourists.

Joburg Tourism has launched a new Visitor Information Centre (VIC) in Sandton. The agency unveiled the VIC in Nelson Mandela Square, as well as a new website and app for tourists.

The move is in line with the Department of Economic Development’s strategic objective to improve seasonality and length of stay of visitors, improve the diversity of offerings in the city and build a positive image of Johannesburg for tourists.

Speaking at the unveiling on Friday, September 21, Leah Knott, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development in Johannesburg said: “The new VIC is situated in the heart of Sandton, Africa’s most iconic square mile, and ideally placed for both business and leisure travellers, who are key to contributing toward growth targets outlined by the City’s administration.”

Joburg Tourism has also developed a new website that will allow SMMEs in the tourism industry to list their details and benefit from exposure on the site. A new app has also been developed and will be available on both Apple and Android devices. The Visit Joburg app will allow users to check the distance to listed products, nearby points of interest, create a personalised itinerary, see events planned nearby, rate and write reviews for establishments and view available travel packages. The app will be linked to the website and updated as soon as new listings are added to the website.
