NH Johannesburg Sandton, part of the Minor Hotels portfolio, has completed the first phase of a major refurbishment.
Unveiled at an event on July 16, the renovations include upgrades to 13 meeting and event venues, including an 800-seater ballroom.
“This is just a small taste of what is to come for this property. It’s an incredible journey that we’ve started,” said Alexi Cavaleros, Head of International Acquisitions at the Cavaleros Group.
“We’re hoping to complete the hotel by the end of next year. It’s going to take a while but it’s going to be worth the wait. Sandton is going to be blown away. Everyone’s going to think that we’re in the middle of Dubai.”
The meeting rooms are now named after indigenous South African trees: baobab, acacia and mopane. “The names were chosen as a reminder that strong roots create lasting growth, partnerships and success,” Don Jesseman, GM of NH Johannesburg Sandton, said at the event.
The venues now feature updated interiors, more flexible configurations and new audiovisual and conferencing technology.
“Instead of conventional projectors and screens, we’re introducing an LED-screen experience to give more impact to the way presentations are delivered,” said Jesseman.
In addition to the completed conference facilities, the hotel will upgrade several key areas of the property, including its 329 rooms.
