South Africa has been ranked in the top 20 most dangerous countries by the World Economic Forum’s Travel and Tourism Competitiveness.
The Police Ministry reiterated its stance that measures had been put in place to tackle the increased levels of crime in South Africa.
This followed the release of the World Economic Forum’s Travel and Tourism Competitiveness report, which analysed the state of tourism in countries across the globe.
The report highlighted the state of safety of each of the 136 participating countries, ranking them from safe to the least safe.
South Africa came in at 120 on the list, placing the country in the bottom 20 of the Safety and Security list, this according to IOL News.
Other African countries that came in at the bottom end of the spectrum were Egypt, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad and Mali.
Coming in last was Colombia.
Police Ministry Spokesperson, Vuyo Mhaga, who commented after the release said: “There are definitely plans in place. The Minister made mention of intelligence-led policing, which aims to pre-empt crimes before they take place," according to IOL News.
Mhaga also mentioned the six-point plan that aims to assist victims to better report crimes at the nearest police station.
