SANParks has begun planting more than 50 indigenous trees along the Woodcutters Trail in Newlands Forest, part of Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town.
The planting is part of a broader rehabilitation strategy initiated in 2023, aiming to restore areas damaged by illegal bark stripping. The project includes tree painting, seed collection, community engagement with traditional healers and enhanced law enforcement.
Species being planted include Cape Beech, Cape Holly, Bladdernut and Wild Almond.
The initiative is supported by partner organisations contributing to the ongoing conservation and restoration of this ecosystem.
