SANParks invests US$8m in Addo

SANParks has invested R136.5 million (US$8 million) in upgrading infrastructure and facilities in the Addo Elephant National Park.

Eight family accommodation units and a new spa have been completed and are open to the public. Additional new accommodation units, along with the refurbished guest house and swimming pool, will be open in December.

A new 10-unit community lodge is expected to be open in January 2027. The completed 705kW grid-tied solar plant will also be commissioned in January.

Comprehensive upgrades to the bulk sewer and electrical infrastructure have also been completed while road maintenance is underway.

David Maynier, Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, visited the new facilities and construction projects on October 19.

“Having previously visited the Addo Elephant National Park, I am aware that there are many challenges that have been faced relating to the condition of basic infrastructure and facilities. I was pleased to see the scale of the work that is now underway with numerous facilities planned for completion in time for the December holidays,” Maynier said.
