Uber Safari launches in Nairobi, opens platform to local operators

Uber has launched Uber Safari in Nairobi National Park, allowing inbound tourists to pre-book game drives through the app while giving local tour operators direct access to Uber’s international rider base.

The global ride-hailing and technology platform has partnered with the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, Kenya Wildlife Service, the Tourism Regulatory Authority and local fleet partners.

The model has been designed to complement Kenya’s existing safari ecosystem rather than replace it, Uber says. “By opening the platform to local tour operators and fleet partners, Uber Safari creates new earning opportunities for those who already have vehicles and expertise in guiding safaris. Land Cruiser fleets will soon be able to sign up their vehicles on the app, gaining direct access to Uber’s rider base and seamless booking technology, which helps generate new demand. This model ensures that value flows back into local businesses, empowering operators to grow their income while giving riders trusted, safe and high-quality safari experiences,” says Imran Manji, GM for Uber in East Africa.

Uber Safari must be booked in advance through the app’s Uber Reserve function. Tourists choose either a day or night safari in Nairobi National Park and are collected in licensed Land Cruisers operated by accredited tour companies. Each booking includes a licensed guide and a three-hour wildlife experience.
