Velvet Sky will expand its fleet to accommodate the increasing demand for its service.
An additional two B737-300s will be added to the fleet, enabling the domestic carrier to service a greater volume of passengers on its flights between Cape Town and Johannesburg and Johannesburg and Durban.
The new aircraft will take to the skies at the end of this month, increasing the frequency of flights and adding 296 seats. Velvet Sky has also added a DC9 aircraft from Global Aviation, which will operate from August 5. Once the Boeings are operating, the DC9 will service new routes, which are expected to open soon.
“After four months of operation, we have achieved a flight reliability factor of over 99% and on-time departures as high as 95%,” says Dhevan Pillay, Velvet Sky CEO. “While exceptional service is a non-negotiable, we stay focused on reliability and on-time departures, as this is what, at the end of the day, differentiates a good airline from an exceptional one.”
