Wilderness inspires Namibia’s future conservation leaders

Wilderness recently hosted the Youth Environmental Stewardship (YES) Exploration through its Children in the Wilderness (CITW) Namibia programme.

The CITW initiative, part of the Wilderness Impact Strategy, focuses on creating the next generation of environmental leaders by exposing children to their wildlife heritage.

The four-day YES Exploration brought together 30 learners from across Namibia, swopping their classrooms for a week of educational discovery, career inspiration and environmental immersion. The itinerary was designed to expose learners to academic and career pathways as well as environmental awareness.

Agnes Tjirare-Kerii, Wilderness Namibia’s Impact Manager, said: “It’s about planting the seeds of future leadership – with the right support, quality education and an enabling environment, young people can grow into confident, capable changemakers for their communities and the conservation of Namibia’s wild places”.
