Marriott International’s Autograph Collection brand has opened its first safari camp in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park.
Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection, located near the park’s Fort Ikoma gate, comprises 15 tented suites and one two-bedroom villa – each with private decks with views of the Serengeti wilderness.
Each tented suite has a retractable canvas roof and in-room telescopes offering views of the night sky. The two-bedroom villa has expansive indoor-outdoor living space, a private dining room, pool and kitchen.
The camp was designed by Arusha-based Dunia Designs with interiors that celebrate Tanzanian craft and culture. The design studio’s signature use of recycled material appears throughout the camp in the form of sculptural works, stools, sofas and benches.
The camp offers a number of experiences including night drives, a sunrise hot-air balloon ride, daytime game drives and visits to the nearby Robanda Village where Ikoma artisans conduct experiences such as canvas painting, beadwork, cooking and drumming.
Located at the centre of the camp is Njia Restaurant, which sources seasonal ingredients from the camp’s vegetable garden. The camp also has a spa, gym, bar and rim-flow pool.
