British multi-billionaire, Sir Richard Branson, is eyeing prime land in Okavango Delta for tourism developments.
According to the Weekendpost, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Conservation and Tourism, Tshekedi Khama, has confirmed that Branson had applied for a tourism concession in the Okavango Delta. His application, which was routed through Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), is reportedly still under consideration, pending land allocation by Tawana Land Board.
BITC develops and promotes Botswana as a competitive and attractive destination for investment and trade, and accelerates sustainable economic growth and diversification.
Contacted for comment on some of the tourism developments Branson had planned, and when his application would be responded to, Lebogang Mpete, BITC Customer Relations Manager, said: “We are unable to share any information regarding Sir Richard Branson’s dealings with the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre.”
Branson visited Botswana in November to attend premier business-to-business multi-sectoral Global Expo Botswana, at the invitation of BITC, which hosts the expo. He also visited the Okavango Delta.
