&Beyond will launch Tengile River Lodge in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve on December 1.
The lodge is in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve on the banks of the Sand River, with an unfenced border to the Kruger National Park. Tengile (which means ‘tranquil’) will feature nine air-conditioned ‘floating’ suites that look out over the river from within a riverine forest. Each suite will have a sunken lounge, a bedroom and en-suite bathroom, with indoor and outdoor showers that open out on to the forest. WiFi will also be available in the rooms. Two of the suites will be inter-leading.
The interiors of the lodge will be elegant, complemented with more modern finishes. Guests will have use of a massage and gym area, and will be able to make use of intimate pockets of open spaces for group gatherings.
Tengile Lodge follows a mantra of sustainability, with environmentally friendly construction materials being used, with durability in mind. Automation will be implemented to reduce the use of electricity, along with solar power to increase efficiency during the building phase, and once construction has been completed.
The lodge will offer early-morning and evening game drives where guests have the opportunity to see leopards, lion, spotted hyena, antelope, elephant, white rhino, buffalo and hippos. Interpretive bush walks will be available too, along with birdwatching.
There will be daily Airlink flights to Skukuza airstrip, followed by an easy drive to the camp.
