Tsogo Sun unveiled the first phase of Gold Reef City’s R630 million refurbishment at an event held for members of the hospitality industry on November 19.
According to Tsogo Sun CEO, Marcel von Aulock, the multimillion-rand investment is the first step towards the famous attraction being recognised as a complete, world-class entertainment destination. He said while Gold Reef City had typically been seen as either a theme park or a casino, both parts of the property would now be combined to offer one great experience.
To make this a reality, Gold Reef City welcomed its very own cinema complex – Movies@Gold Reef City. Themed as a Victorian train, the cinema complex offers six theatres – four of which include 3D capabilities – with 1 048 seats in total.
Additionally, Gold Reef now has its own 12-lane bowling alley and a gaming arcade. An exclusive gaming area – the Salon Prive’ – was also introduced, featuring its own private entrances, playing areas, baccarat room, Internet and cash desk facilities, lobby and VIP desk, as well as an exclusive lounge.
Among the additions to the property are several new and upgraded restaurants, including the classic Back o’ the Moon, which has undergone a total revamp and offers accessible upmarket dining.
