INATUR, the marketing arm of the Mozambican Tourist Board, last month invited concession bids to develop and operate the existing Ponta Malongana Tourist Complex in the southern region of the country.
The complex currently comprises eight houses, 19 chalets, and buildings for a reception area, laundry, restaurant and kitchen.
The invitation for bids stipulates that a minimum investment of $10 million is expected for the rehabilitation, modernisation and expansion of the project.
The tender invites investors to consider either an 800-bed four-star operation or a 120-bed five-star resort complex.
The 59-hectare site is 80km south of Maputo (soon to be connected by dual lane freeway) and 10km from the Kosi Bay border post with South Africa
Activities expected to be utilised by the incoming operators include diving, shore and deep-sea sport fishing, surfing, kite surfing and dolphin watching.
