New camp opens on the banks of the Zambezi

Great Plains Conservation has expanded its footprint in Zimbabwe with the launch of the Mpala Jena Camp.

Great Plains Conservation has launched Mpala Jena Camp, in the Zambezi National Park, 16 kilometres from the town of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.

The camp is made up of four tents and the Mpala Jena Suite, a private two-bedroom suite for families or smaller exclusive groups. Each tent has a small lounge/seating area with a desk, and the decking in front of each tent leads to a private plunge pool overlooking the river. Facilities include a main lounge and dining area.

The camp was created using only recycled hardwoods and canvas and all electricity is produced by its solar farm.

Activities include early-morning and late-afternoon game viewing in a private open 4x4 vehicle, guided walks, a return road transfer to Victoria Falls town, an entrance ticket per guest to view the Falls on a self-guided basis, as well as boat-based activities on the Zambezi River if water levels permit.

Arrivals into Victoria Falls Airport are included in the nightly rate as a road transfer conducted as a safari drive through the Zambezi National Park, with a transfer time of one hour 20 minutes. Alternatively, a road and boat transfer is on offer with a transfer time of up to an hour and 25 minutes. Guests can also opt for the road transfer from Victoria Falls Airport to town, followed by a helicopter flight from town at an additional cost and a transfer time of 30 minutes.

Guests arriving from Kazangula border post are transferred by road along the Kazangula road, with a travel time of 40 minutes and then a safari drive through the Zambezi National Park, with an estimated transfer time of 30 to 45 minutes.

Arrivals into Livingstone Airport receive a road transfer, which is conducted as a safari drive through the Zambezi National Park, with a travel time of two hours, dependent on time spent at the border; alternatively a road and boat transfer is on offer with a transfer time of an hour and 40 minutes, border dependent.
