Newmark Hotels & Reserves has announced that bookings for its new Zimbabwean property, Bupenyu Lodge, are now open. The property, set to open on December 1, is located 28km from Victoria Falls, above Rapid No 22 of the Zambezi River.
The lodge offers 11 cliffside suites and a two-bedroom villa with each suite featuring a private plunge pool, indoor and outdoor living spaces.
Shared spaces include three dining platforms, a boma, a cliffside bird hide, spa treatment pods, an infinity pool, a wine cellar, a gym with a 1km running track and an on-site helipad for transfers.
Local, seasonal ingredients will form the basis of a curated culinary offering led by Newmark’s Group Head Chef Chris Erasmus – supported by Newmark’s Group Sommelier Marlvin Gwese.
The lodge’s architecture, by Stellenbosch-based Experience Architects, pays homage to Zimbabwe’s Batoka Gorge heritage through cantilevered forms and tensile cables. The property’s interiors were designed by Amy Kidger, Director and Interior Designer at Hinterland Studio.
“Every detail here is designed to honour our surroundings and create a sense of belonging,” explains Razwilson Dube, Bupenyu Lodge GM, adding that his goal is to build a team rooted in local culture with at least 80% of staff recruited from neighbouring villages.
