People on the move: SATIB Insurance Brokers SA appoints Executive Head

Dewald Cillie is the new Executive Head of SATIB Insurance Brokers SA.

SATIB Insurance Brokers South Africa has appointed Dewald Cillie as new Executive Head.

Cillie began his career in the tourism and travel industry with SATIB Insurance Brokers where he was initially employed as a debtor’s clerk then began climbing the ranks over the next 15 years.

Tony Romer-Lee has been elected by the Southern Africa Tourism Services Association (Satsa) board to take over as Chairperson. Rob Hetem will be replacing Romer-Lee as Vice-Chairperson, as elected by the Satsa board.

Sarova Hotels, Resorts and Game Lodges has appointed Jimi Kariuki as Managing Director of the hotel group following the tragic death of Jaideep Vohra in a road accident last year.

Previously, Kariuki served as the Marketing and Sales Director of the hotel chain.

He joined Sarova Hotels in 1992 as a Marketing Manager before taking over the role of the Group’s Marketing and Sales Director in 1996. He is also a member of the company’s board of directors.

“This is a very exciting challenge for me and I look forward to working closely with the Board of Directors and our great team to continue with the delivery of our vision and our promise to customers,” Kariuki said.

 Kariuki holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from Huron University, South Dakota, USA, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town, South Africa.

The new Sarova Hotels boss is also the current Chairman of the Kenya Tourism Board.

Fastjet has appointed Susana Ribeiro as Country Manager for Mozambique.

Ribeiro has more than 15 years’ experience across various disciplines in the commercial airline sector. Prior to joining Fastjet she led the Johannesburg office of Aviareps, representing 17 international airline and tourism brands in SA, including Thomas Cook, Malawi Airlines and SriLankan Airlines.

“I am looking forward to further developing a key market for the brand,” says Ribeiro. “Fastjet has become synonymous with affordable African air travel. Its initial successes in Mozambique created an excellent platform to further build brand strength and commercial growth.”
