Jaideep Singh Vohra, Director of the East Africa Safari Classic and Managing Director of Sarova Hotels and Resorts, died in Kenya on November 24 following a road accident.
Vohra, who also served as Chairman of the Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers and Caterers, suffered injuries after his vehicle rolled on the Amboseli-Namanga road while en route to watch a road rally.
President Uhuru Kenyatta mourned Vohra’s death, as he was an accomplished investor in the tourism industry and played a key role in promoting Kenya’s tourism. Kenyatta said it was a major blow to the tourism industry, one of the country’s leading foreign income earners, reported the KBC Channel.
Sarova Hotels said it would continue to manage the operations of the company. “Sarova Hotels has lost a leader, a friend, a mentor and a humble human being who held the interests of the 1 400 staff close to his heart. The thoughts and prayers of the Board of Directors go out to his family,” said a statement from the board.
