Tour de Limpopo showcases the province

LTA hopes the new Tour de Limpopo will expand the province’s tourism.

The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) in conjunction with Cycling South Africa launched the Tour de Limpopo on February 1 at the Euphoria Golf and Lifestyle Estate.

The four-day cycling race starts on April 22 and ends on April 26 and consists of two races, the UCI Africa tour 2.2 stage race and the veteran’s tour.

Participants start the race in Polokwane, Limpopo’s capital, and then head to Tzaneen where they spend three nights before cycling back to Polokwane.

The main objective of the event is to showcase Limpopo’s diversity, positioning it as a cycling destination. Through this platform, the LTA will be given the chance to further showcase the natural attractions that lie within the province, such as Magoebaskloof.

Andrew Dipela, LTA Board Chairperson, told those at the media launch (on February 1) that he believed the event would benefit the tourism sector, as well as small, medium and micro-enterprises.

“The purpose of LTA participating in this partnership is to ensure that tourism grows and benefits small players in the process… We have vowed to make Tour de Limpopo an annual event over the next three years but, most importantly, we want to see it grow for the people of this province to benefit, while participants and their families also gain from the tourism offerings,” he said.
