Zanzibar eyes national carrier

In an effort to improve direct international routes and tourism growth, Zanzibar is investigating the establishment of its own national airline.

According to The Citizen, Zanzibar’s Minister of Labour and Investment Shariff Ali Shariff attributed lack of direct flights into the archipelago as one of the main constraints for its tourism sector.

Shariff confirmed that the government aims to form a consortium to establish an airline that brings tourists directly to Zanzibar and that it is currently in preliminary talks with potential investors.
