Africa’s first eVTOL flight takes off

Africa’s first self-piloted electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) flight took off at the 9th Aviation Africa Summit & Exhibition in Kigali, Rwanda, last week.

The EH216-S eVTOL, supplied by Chinese aviation technology company, EHang, is a collaboration between the Rwandan Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA) and the China Road and Bridge Corporation.

According to Ehang, the eVTOL could aid connectivity between remote regions on the continent and commercial hubs.

Staff of the RCAA and reporters from China Media Group were the first passengers to experience the flights.

"This impressive flight will drive the development of low-altitude transportation in Africa,” said Rwandan President, Paul Kagame.
