Several popular hiking routes and access points within the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) will remain closed until further notice following a wildfire in the Camps Bay area.
The fire, which began on September 29, was successfully contained after impacting 25 hectares of vegetation.
However, SANParks said the following hiking routes and access points will remain closed as firefighting and aerial support teams continue to monitor hotspots:
- Footpaths and jeep tracks to Camps Bay
- Pipe track
- Theresa Avenue and Geneva Avenue
- All footpaths accessing Camps Bay from Back Table and Apostle Battery
- Trails above the Twelve Apostles
“TMNP has urged hikers and park users to take extra precautions amid a high fire danger index and a heat warning issued by the South African Weather Service. Visitors are advised to carry sufficient water, use sun protection, avoid hiking during peak heat hours and remain alert to signs of smoke or fire,” SANParks said in a statement.
