Cape Town, Durban advance superyacht marinas

Cape Town and Durban are advancing their respective superyacht marina developments.

The V&A Waterfront’s R230 million (US$1.4 million) Quay 7 Superyacht Marina is scheduled for completion by October 31. The official opening is scheduled for November 1. Six purpose-built pontoons will provide berthing for eight vessels up to 90m in length.

The planned KZN Superyacht Marina in Durban, with an estimated R1.9 billion (US$115.4 million) private-sector investment pipeline, is part of the Durban Bay Waterfront Project targeting more than 2 500 direct jobs by 2030. A 24ha site within the Port of Durban has been earmarked for a superyacht precinct.

The Durban project is aiming to position the city as a gateway to Africa along an emerging superyacht route linking the Mediterranean to the Eastern Seaboard.

The first African edition of the Yachting Aftersales and Refit Experience (YARE) On Tour Symposium will be hosted by eThekwini Municipality at Moses Mabhida Stadium in November.

The municipality is aiming to bring international industry attention to the city’s maritime business.

Durban’s international partner, Navigo, an Italy-based organisation associated with the YARE programme, is committed to bringing 10 or more superyacht visits to the city annually from 2028.
