Digital tipping platform launched for safari industry

A new digital tipping platform, SafariTip, has been launched to address challenges associated with gratuities in Africa’s safari and hospitality industry, including cash shortages, currency exchange and the administration of staff tips.

Co-founded by Sarah Morris, GM of Ker & Downey Africa, and tech entrepreneur Fabio Longano, the platform allows guests to scan a QR code and tip an entire lodge team, a specific department or their guiding team.

Tips are allocated to individual staff digital wallets according to the lodge’s agreed distribution structure, allowing employees to view their allocations and reducing the administrative burden on lodge operators.

The platform, which works alongside existing cash and card tipping options, has been designed for use in remote safari environments where internet connectivity may be limited.

Additional features include tipping histories, guest feedback tools and options to contribute to conservation initiatives.
