Congo Airways, the flag carrier of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will launch flights from Kinshasa to Johannesburg on February 28, marking its international debut.
The airline will operate three weekly flights using an Airbus A320-200, with 10 seats in business class and 150 in economy. Ownership of the airline is divided between government and local and international investors.
The airline initially planned to launch flights to Johannesburg on November 1, 2016. Junette Otshudi, Congo Airways Country Manager for South Africa, told Tourism Update the delay had been due to the airline’s decision to fine-tune its eight domestic routes – Lubumbashi, Kisangani, Goma, Kindu, Mbuji-Mayi, Mbandaka, Gemena and Isiro, before launching international routes.
Congo Airways plans to launch flights next to Angola, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and the Ivory Coast.
